Professor Emeritus W. Phillips Davison retired from a joint appointment by the Graduate School of Journalism and the Sociology Department at the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences in 1986. In the 1990s, Davison worked as a consultant, traveled and continued writing.

In 2004, he self-published Things Might Go Right (iUniverse), a sociological book.

“The reason for the semi-optimistic title is that I think the world's social organization has changed a lot during the past hundred years and that we now know how to greatly reduce wars and poverty, but are not using this knowledge,” writes Davison.

In 2006, Davison published a memoir, A Personal History of World War II — How a Pacifist Draftee Accidentally Became a Military Government Official In Postwar Germany (iUniverse), based largely on letters written during the war.

Now in his 90s, Davison is working to promote the formation of The Cooperative Foundation for Peace and a Better Life (CFPB), which would advocate the use of conflict resolution techniques throughout the world.
