Cardinal Foley '66 speaks at the J-School
Cardinal John P. Foley ’66 visited the Journalism School on April 11 and was interviewed by professor Ari Goldman ’73, who teaches the spring seminar “Covering Religion.” Cardinal Foley returned to the U.S. a week later with Pope Benedict XVI.
2008 Alumni Awards Presented
The 2008 Alumni Awards ceremony took place on April 4 at Columbia University’s Low Library. The awards are given annually to Graduate School of Journalism alumni for a distinguished journalism career in any medium, for an outstanding single accomplishment in journalism, for notable contributions to journalism education, or for achievement in related fields. Awardees are selected by members of the School’s Alumni Association. This year's winners are:
· Dele Olojede ’88, executive chairman, Timbuktu Media and Pulitzer Prize winner
· Walter Mossberg ’70, personal technology columnist, the Wall Street Journal
· Margaret Drain ’76, vice president of national programming for WGBH Boston
· Evelina Shmukler ’98, publisher and editor of the Pass Christian Gazebo Gazette, who received a special award for her coverage of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina
· Kenneth Turan ’68, film critic, the Los Angeles Times and NPR’s “Morning Edition”
