Associate Dean Arlene Morgan honored for fostering diversityMarch 06, 2008 Associate Dean Arlene Morgan has been chosen as the winner of the 2008 Lawrence Young Breakthrough Award, given by the National Association of Minority Media Executives (NAMME). She will be one of eight media leaders honored for their ideas and accomplishments in advancing the cause of diversity in the media business. NAMME is an organization of media managers and executives of color working across all media platforms in both content and business. NAMME exists to bring greater diversity to the senior ranks of the industry, and to serve as a resource to the industry on matters of diversity and inclusion. Morgan runs the annual "Let's Do It Better!" Workshop in Journalism, Race and Ethnicity at Columbia and is the driving force behind the 2006 book/DVD/Web site The Authentic Voice: The Best Reporting on Race and Ethnicity.The awards will be presented at the annual “Celebration of Diversity” banquet on Tuesday, April 15, in Washington, D.C. This year the dinner is being hosted by Newspaper Publishers of America (NAA) and the American Society of Newspaper Editors (ASNE) during their annual conventions. This is the second year in a row that this award has gone to a member of the Journalism School faculty. In 2007, Dean of Students Sree Sreenivasan was the recipient of the Lawrence Young Award. |
