The Journalism School welcomes Susan Shine

October 13, 2008

Susan Shine will join the Journalism School as the new associate dean for development and alumni relations.

Shine has a background in university administration, but she has spent the past two decades working in development at Carnegie Hall, Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts and WNYC. At all three organizations, Shine successfully ran capital campaigns, including the first-ever capital fundraising campaign at WNYC.

“Susan has agreed to come to the Journalism School because she is excited about the progress we have made thus far in our campaign, and because she believes in the vital importance of journalism and journalism education at a time of enormous change in the profession and the society. Susan will be a wonderful colleague and a leader of the development and alumni relations office,” writes Dean Nicholas Lemann.

Shine, who is replacing Jeffrey Richard, now the vice president of development for the university, will begin working at the J-School after Jan. 1.

“Susan's decision to come here represents an affirmation of the great work that Jeff Richard and everyone in his office have done here, and an opportunity to build on our success in the coming years,” writes Dean Lemann.
