Bill is a former investigative reporter and editorial writer for The New York Times. For more than a decade, he reported on African affairs for the Atlantic Monthly, the New Republic,The New York Times Magazine and the Washington Post. He is the author of The Graves Are Not Yet Full: Race, Tribe and Power in the Heart of Africa (Basic Books 2001), and is currently at work on a book about Iran. He was educated at Harvard College and Yale Law School, where he spent a year on a fellowship for journalists. For the past eight years he has taught a writing seminar at Columbia's School of International and Public Affairs known as 'Writing About International Affairs -- Point of View.'
