Joe Ferrer was named executive editor of Time, Inc. in January, 1997 and was responsible for editorial staff development at all magazines. His particular focus was on increasing diversity at every level of Time, Inc. journalism. Previous to this assignment, Ferrer was editor of Time's 10 different international editions. He was also an executive editor of Time in the U.S., overseeing the World section. Ferrer joined Time magazine as a writer in 1963, after graduating from Princeton University. In 1967, he started a long assignment in the Law section during which he won the American Bar Association Gavel Award. In 1976, Ferrer left Time, Inc. to become founding editor of Nuestro, an English language monthly for Latins in the US, and after two and a half years moved on to edit Politics Today, a non-partisan magazine about politics. In 1981, he returned to Time as a senior editor in the "back of the book" sections. In 1988, he was assigned to Time's international editions. Ferrer has been a member of the Board of Visitors at Harvard Law School, a journalism fellow at Stanford University Law School and a media fellow at Duke University.
