Professor Frederick earned her B.A. from Middlebury and her M.S. from Columbia. She is also a graduate of the Program in Middle Eastern Studies, at Tel Aviv University. Additionally, she has held the following professional positions: Production manager and designer, Fred Weidner & Son Printers, New York; program guide designer, WFUV, Bronx, New York; production manager, The Savadow Company, New York; reporter, managing editor, The Riverdale Press.

Her awards include Writer of the Year, New York Press Association, 1997; second place, feature story, New York Press Association, 1997; first place, coverage of education, New York Press Association, 1996, 1997, second place, 1999; first place, feature story, National Newspaper Association, 1997; honors, in depth reporting, New York Press Association, 1999; Leslie Rachel Sander Social Justice Award, Columbia Graduate School of Journalism, 1996.
