Hannah Fairfield Wallander is a graphics editor at The New York Times and has been teaching "Graphics in the Newsroom" since 2003. She has won many awards for information graphics from the Society of News Design, including a silver medal for her 2006 portfolio and the best of show award in 2001 for a team portfolio of news graphics covering 9/11. She won the J-School's Richard Blood Prize for best RW1 story in 1999. In addition to The New York Times, her writing and graphics have appeared in the Columbia Journalism Review, Newsday, Life, Ms. and Legal Affairs, and in a book on the visual history of 9/11. She has a B.A. in English and geoscience from William Smith College and master's degrees from Columbia in journalism (2000) and earth and environmental science. |
