| William J. Gorta is an associate metro editor at the New York Post, where he supervises police and transit coverage. His previous positions at The Post include general assignment reporter, night rewrite and part-time night city editor. Before entering journalism, Gorta spent 20 years in the New York City police department, retiring in 2000 as a captain. He was one of the creators of the NYPD’s CompStat crime reduction program. Gorta received his bachelor’s degree in literature and writing from Columbia University School of General Studies in 1995. He was a Fulbright research fellow in the United Kingdom during the ’97-’98 academic year and is a 2001 graduate of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. | |
