Jacob Levenson is the author of the "The Secret Epidemic: The Story of AIDS in Black America" (Pantheon), a narrative non fiction history of how AIDS became a black epidemic in the United States. He has written for Mother Jones, Vibe, The Utne Reader, and The Columbia Journalism Review among other publications. His writing has been anthologized in academic journals and books. He has been a fellow at the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University and the Open Society Institute. He has also worked in radio and documentary film. He studied at the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism and the University of California at Berkeley.
