Applicants are urged to use their own resourcefulness in researching financial aid. We encourage students to seek out and to apply for any appropriate scholarship or fellowship. College and local libraries are good starting places. Many college alumni societies have scholarship funding for graduate studies. Groups such as the YW/YMCA, Chapter of Commerce, local newspapers and church organizations often provide information and/or funding. The following listings are intended to help start your search.

Other Possibilities
Applicants are encouraged to check with their local chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. For example, we know the following chapters offer annual scholarships to graduates students:
Greater Buffalo International Chapter for candidates living in Western New York, Northern Pennsylvania, and Southern Ontario and attending an accredited university offering recognized journalism education. Los Angeles Chapter offers several scholarships depending upon the funds available. Students may apply for all categories if eligible, but generally no multiple awards are made. Limited to students who are residents of the LA area studying somewhere else. Editor & Publisher Director of Journalism Awards and Fellowships
Editor & Publisher magazine publishes a Journalism Awards and Fellowships listing in their year end issue. Ask for "Journalism Awards Issue." To order a copy, please call their toll free circulation number at (800) 722-6658.
Deadline Club—New York Chapter usually awards at least two scholarships of $1,000. Write John Mack Carter, President, Deadline Club, Good Housekeeping, 959 Eighth Ave., Room 539, New York, NY 10019. Students, in most instances, are eligible to apply for the New York Chapter scholarship as well the one from their local chapter.
Veteran Benefits
If you or one of your family members are in the military, the education office at the nearest base can provide information regarding educational opportunities as well as information on the GI Bill and Veteran Educational Assistance Program. Loan Sources
Central Scholarship Bureau
Bona fide residents of the Baltimore City/Baltimore County area are eligible for interest-free loans up to $3,500, as a last resort, for graduate study. Write CSB, 4001 Clarks Lane, Baltimore, MD 21215. Deadline, June 1.
Eddy & Latshaw Student Loan
Loans up to $2,000 per year and a maximum total of $4,000 for graduate students at 10% annual interest. No collateral is required but two co-signers are necessary. Usually parents will suffice. Presbyterian Church (USA)
Loans up to $1,000 at 8% interest to members with certified need. Presbyterian Church (USA), Financial Aid for Studies Office, 100 Witherspoon St., Louisville, KY 40202-1396. (502) 569-5744. Repayment begins six months after graduation or withdrawal from a program.
