Dean and Henry R. Luce Professor It was my sense that the Graduate School of Journalism did not have a close enough relationship with the larger university of which it was part. We want to deepen that relationship as an enterprise. We also want to more aggressively apply the doctrine of comparative advantage and offer potential students things they can’t receive elsewhere. The M.A. program offers unique selling properties. It has the only completely comprehensive menu of specialties for journalists in the country. Indeed, most journalism schools have tended to outsource substance. The idea behind the M.A. program is to move substance back into the building and not only confer to students the skill sets and power tools necessary for any journalist’s pursuit of truth, but also to offer them subject matter expertise with much more academic content.
