I’ve always thought of The Journalism School as being something more than just a graduate school. For me, especially in my book-writing class, the models are more like conservatories – places like Julliard, Berklee College of Music, the Iowa Writers Workshop. I think of myself as a professional teaching professionals. More specifically, I think of myself as passing on a hallowed tradition of narrative non-fiction – the tradition of John Hersey, J. Anthony Lukas, and others – to the next generation. And nothing could be more thrilling than that sense of mission.
