Cross-Registration
Columbia Law School
The Law School course listing is posted on the Law School's Academic Website. In order to access these listings and course descriptions on the Law School website, click on "Curriculum Guide". Upper class courses (6000-level and above), Upper level seminars (8000 and 9000-level) and Research courses are available for cross registration.
Please be sure to review the Law School's policies (outlined on the Law School Cross Registration Application) regarding its course offerings.
Please note: It is important to check the Law School's academic calendar as it differs from J-School. For spring 2010, both the Law School and the J-School have spring break from March 15th - 19th.
Law School offerings are open to full-time graduate degree candidates at Columbia University. Non-law students may take no more than 2 (two) law courses per semester and no more than 4 (four) courses during their entire Columbia course of study.
Law courses vary between 2-4 credits. The Law School does not permit the pass/fail or Audit option for its courses.
Students must seek permission to take Law School courses directly from the faculty at the Law School. You must fill out the Cross-Registration Form for Non-Law School Students in the Law School's Registration Forms website in order to register.
After submitting the Law School form, you must check with the Law School Office of Academic Services to see if you have been admitted into the course. If you have been admitted, the Law School will register you for the course in the Law School registration system.
After you have been registered in the Law School registration system, bring the Law School Cross Registration Application and proof of Law School registration to Dean Huff, room 207C. She will register you into the regular University registration system.
Once you are registered for the Law School course, the IT department will send each student an e-mail with their username & password to access the Course Web system. If you have not received a username and password from the Law School to access course materials, contact the IT desk at 212-854-1370 or e-mail them at helpdesk@law.columbia.edu
If you decide to drop the course once you are officially registered, you must do so at both the Journalism School and the Law School.
