Nearly 350 alumni returned to the Journalism School for Alumni Weekend to reconnect with each other and the school. Scores more attended the Saturday evening class socials, held at various venues in New York City. The weekend kicked off on April 3 with the Hearst New Media Lecture and included two days of workshops and panels given by Journalism professors and alumni. Highlights of the weekend included the presentation of this year’s Alumni Awards, the Alumni Book Fair with 40 authors, and the Saturday Alumni Luncheon in Low Library, which featured the presentation of the Dean’s Citation to Howard Brown ’48, president of United Communications Corp., Founder’s Award to Professor Judith Crist ’45 and the Dean’s Medal for Public Service to Phil Hardberger ’60, mayor of San Antonio. David Denby ’66, film critic and staff writer at the New Yorker, delivered the keynote.
