DescriptionThe GLAAD Fellowship Program was created to develop new leadership in the movement for LGBT equality and provide a unique opportunity to build experience in media advocacy. GLAAD Fellows are given a great deal of responsibility and are directly supervised by experts in communications, journalism and media advocacy on GLAAD’s staff. GLAAD's fellowship program requires a commitment of one year and a minimum of 30 hours per week.

2009 GLAAD Fellowships run through December 31, 2009. GLAAD Media Fellows are paid a monthly stipend of $1600. GLAAD Media Fellows are responsible for their own housing and living expenses.

Qualifications
GLAAD Media Fellows are paid a monthly stipend of $1000. GLAAD Media Fellows are responsible for their own housing and living expenses and no relocation is provided. Applicants must be enrolled in a degree program at least half-time as a graduate or undergraduate student, or have successfully completed a graduate or undergraduate degree within the 12 months preceding the application deadline.

Applicants should have:
* Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks to meet deadlines, and desire to be a self-starter.
* Knowledge of and commitment to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues.
* Strong media monitoring, research and analysis skills.
* Demonstrated leadership in progressive and/or LGBT communities.
* Demonstrated experience managing research and data.
* Confident, professional phone manner for dealing with reporters and media outlets.
* Computer proficiency in word processing, database work, email and Internet research.
* Inclusiveness is a vital part of GLAAD’s work. Candidates must have skills necessary to collaborate within a diverse and inclusive environment.
