How to Create a Callout and Add a Callout to a Page

You can add a right column callout or a bottom callout to a simple page template on the school’s Web site. You can see examples of both a bottom callout and right column callouts on the Alumni & Friends page. Callout information does not display in search results.

All callouts are stored under the CALLOUT tab located on the left-hand side of the screen.

How to Create a Callout

1. Click on the CALLOUT tab on the left-hand side of the screen. You will see a list of callout categories (Alumni Events, Awards)

2. Move your cursor to the white space below the CALLOUT tab. Right-click on your mouse and a box will appear. Select “New Callout” from the list of options.

3. You’ll see a page with empty fields appear in the work area on the right-hand side of the screen. The top of the page will say “Callout: (Callout).”

4. Enter the title of your page in the NAME field. Don’t include any punctuation marks. This file name will be stored in the CMS database, but it will not appear on your page. You may want to come up with a consistent naming convention to keep track of your work, so you can easily manage and locate your pages.

5. Leave the DESCRIPTION, FILENAME, PATH and EXTERNAL ITEM ID fields blank.

6. Now locate the callout category for your page (e.g.: Awards, Alumni Events) under the CALLOUT tab on the left-hand side of the screen. Click once on the appropriate section. Look for the CALLOUT CATEGORY field in your work area on the right-hand side of the screen and click on the “Add Selected Items” button. You’ll see your category appear under the button.

7. Leave the DESCRIPTION, FILENAME, PATH and EXTERNAL ITEM ID fields blank.

8. Enter the title of your callout in the TITLE field. This title will be displayed at the top of the callout. (OPTIONAL) Enter a subtitle in the SUBTITLE field.

9. Enter a numerical value for your callout in the ORDER field.

10. Complete the ABSTRACT field.

11. Save your work by clicking on the “Save” button at the top or bottom of the page.

How to Add a Callout to a Page

All simple pages are stored under the PAGE DETAIL tab located on the left-hand side of the screen. All callouts are stored under the CALLOUT tab located on the left-hand side of the screen.

1. Click on the PAGE DETAIL tab and wait for a list of pages to load.

2. Click on the “+” icon next to the appropriate section to expand the list and locate your page.

3. Click on the name of the story that needs a callout. Right-click on the name of the page with your mouse and a box will appear. Select “Edit” from the list of options.

4. Look for the following fields at the bottom of the page: BOTTOMCALLOUTLIST (bottom callout) and RIGHTCALLOUTCATEGORYLIST (right callout).

5. To add a bottom callout, select the appropriate callout from the drop-down menu next to the BOTTOMCALLOUTLIST field.

6. To add right callouts and a right column, select the appropriate callout from the drop-down menu next to the RIGHTCALLOUTCATEGORYLIST field.

7. Click on the “Save Changes” button on the top or bottom of the page.
