Mission Statement
The Alumni Association of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism creates a lifelong bond among alumni and connects them to the students and faculty of the School.
The Association works in partnership with the School and its Alumni Office to engage a diverse group of graduates worldwide through programs and services that address the needs of its members.
The Association supports the mission, core values and ethics of the School of Journalism and promotes the role of journalism in strengthening and sustaining democracy.
Organization
Role and Function
The board will be representative of the alumni body and will provide the leadership to implement the Alumni Association strategic plan. The Board will work closely with the Alumni Relations staff to establish goals and programmatic priorities and to serve as a link between the School and its alumni body.
Board Operations
The Board will meet three times each year, once in conjunction with Alumni Weekend, once in the fall and once in the winter.
Board Leadership
The Board will have a chair and vice chair and committee leaders as needed and determined by the Board. The Society of Professional Journalists-Columbia chapter president and the Alumni Director serve as ex-officio members of the Board.
Nominating Process
The nominating committee will be chaired by the immediate past president of the Alumni Board and include the Alumni Director and two at-large alumni.

Board members should demonstrate:
- Dedication to the School
- Commitment to participate
Board member requirements:
- Attend meetings
- Make annual contribution to the school
Chair and Vice chair:
- In addition to above, the chair will serve as an ex-officio member of the Journalism School's Board of Visitors and ex-officio member of the Columbia Alumni Association representative body.
- The chair will work closely with the Alumni Relations Director to establish goals and programmatic priorities.
- The Vice Chair will assume the responsibilities of the Chair if he/she is indisposed.
