Master of Arts Program
The one-year M.A. degree program offers students expertise in one of four concentrations: politics, arts & culture, business & economics, or science. Under close supervision by journalism faculty, M.A. students draw deeply on expertise that resides elsewhere at Columbia University. Students work with professors from both the journalism school and the university’s academic departments and professional schools.
M.A. students take five courses per semester with at least one course per semester from other schools or departments at the University. All M.A. students are required to complete a master’s thesis, a year-long project jointly advised by a member of the journalism faculty and a member of the Columbia faculty or a subject-area expert from outside the journalism school. Students in the M.A. program work closely with faculty leaders in their chosen concentration, receiving intensive editing and mentoring throughout the school year.
Following is a list of professors in the M.A. program, with links to their biographies:
| Evan Cornog Thomas Edsall David Hajdu Marguerite Holloway Nicholas Lemann Sylvia Nasar |
Michael Schudson Alisa Solomon James Stewart Alexander Stille Jonathan Weiner |
