Copiers

Copy stations are located throughout the building in 201, 207, 303, and 702. Please note: Copier issues such as toner requests, paper jams, or any sign of malfunction can be directed to Building, and we in turn will troubleshoot. If the problem is more complex than Building can handle, we will notify Print Services or Ikon (the machine vendor) directly and place a service call. Please note: Technicians respond to calls in 24-48 business hours. For a fee, Print Services in 106 can assist with large or specialty copy jobs.

Please report all copier issues to Building Services at help.jrn.columbia.edu

Facility Requests

Any physical building issue ranging from temperature control to leaky faucets, from stuck doors to burned out light bulbs, to a bird that has flown through your open window and is circling your office, you can visit Building Services at help.jrn.columbia.edu with the nature of your problem—please be as specific as you can with your description—and we will submit a work order to CU Facilities.

If the nature of your problem is a non-emergency, Facilities may take a little while to respond, especially if they are backed up. If it’s something that requires immediate attention, we will wtry our best to resolve your issue.

In the case of a Building-related emergency, you may by-pass the Building staff and reach out directly to Facilities by dialing 4-2222 from a Rolm or campus phone, or by dialing (212) 854-2222 from a non-campus phone. CU Facilities operators are standing by 24 hours a day to take emergency calls.

Green Light Requests

Requests to have an access area green-lighted should be submitted at least 48 business hours in advance. This will ensure that all the information is passed on to Public Safety, and it also allows time for us to receive a confirmation on your request.

Requests can be made by visiting the Building Services Section on help.jrn.columbia.edu

Mail Service

The Building mailroom is located in Room 104. It is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. We handle interoffice, domestic, and international flat mail and packages, utilizing the carrier services of the USPS, FedEx, and DHL. Building will alert you by e-mail if the mail room receives a package for you.

FedEx
FedEx picks up on a daily basis in room 104, Monday through Friday between the hours of 3:30 p.m.-5:00 p.m.. Please find a drop box for FedEx packages on your right side as you enter the mailroom. There is a sign indicating the area where packages can be placed for pick-up.

International Mailing
We use FedEx exclusively for all our international shipping. There are two boxes under the Faculty mailboxes in the mail room where mail can be dropped. We send out all international mailing twice a week. Please note: There is no need to separate out Canadian mail; carriers no longer ask for us to do this, so all mail can be placed together and FedEx will sort accordingly prior to shipping.
*Please note: We can arrange for other carriers (UPS, DHL) to pick up packages as well. We will call the carrier for a pick-up upon receiving the package from the customer.

Ordering Office Supplies

If you are in need of office supplies send your request to Building on help.jrn.columbia.edu.

If the item is in stock we will place it in your mailbox for pick-up. If the item is not in stock we will promptly place an order.

There is typically a 48-72 business hour turn around time. If orders are placed before 5pm they might arrive by mid day next business day. But for best results, please allow 48-72 hours for delivery.

Our supplies are ordered through Corporate Express. We have catalogs for briefing in the mail room 104. If you would like your own catalog, we can order one for your department. It’s best to brief the Catalog and give specific item numbers to help ensure that you receive the item you specifically requested.

Requesting a Security Guard from Public Safety

When requesting a security officer for an event, we ask that you submit your request at least 48-business hours prior to your event. You should provide us with the time that the guard is needed, along with the account number of the department requesting the officer. We ask that you give us 48-hours notice so that we can be assured that the request went through to Public Safety, and that they have sufficient time to send us a return confirmation that the guard has been scheduled.

Please be advised that the guards can only be ordered in a minimum of four-hour blocks of time. If, for example, you need the guard from 10 a.m.-12 p.m., your department will still be charged for four hours.

Also note, if your event requires building access before or after the regular building hours of 8 a.m.—8 p.m., Monday through Friday, Public Safety regulations require that a security officer be posted at the building entrance.

Requests can be made by visiting the Building Services Section on help.jrn.columbia.edu

Telecom Requests (Phone set-ups for new employees, trouble shooting)

All telecom requests should be submitted to Building Services at help.jrn.columbia.edu.

If a telecom jack is already activated, i.e., is serving an existing extension or computer, an extension and data request for a new employee can usually be executed within 48-72 business hours. If the telecom jack is not activated, service can usually be activated within 7 business days—perhaps longer, depending upon CUIT work flow at the time of the request. If there is no jack in the area where phone service is requested, a request can me made to have a jack installed. Please note that it takes CUIT technicians 14 days to install new jacks. Special event and high-volume workflow periods may further delay processing your telecom request—for this reason, please be conservative in factoring the time window into your request.

If you experience technical problems, please put in a help ticket with Building and we will follow up with CUIT.
