The Toni Stabile Student Center

The new student center, designed by Marble Fairbanks Architects, reconfigures the west side of the first and second floors and makes exceptional use of previously underutilized spaces. This project is supported by lead gifts from Toni Stabile and Daniel J. Edelman ’41.

Stabile Center is a hit with students

The Center contains a series of comfortable spaces where students, faculty, staff, administrators, and alumni can relax and interact. The heart of the Center is a social hub on the lobby level. It is used for socializing and for events.

Also on the second floor:
  • Admissions
  • Career Services
  • Dean of Students
  • Library

These divisions occupy main- and mezzanine-level offices adjacent to the social hub. An open stairway between the 200 and 100 levels, parallel to the Broadway windows, brings light to the lower level, which contains interview stations, a teaching lab, two conference rooms, and a suite for doctoral students.

Columbia Journalism Review and CJRDaily are now located on the east side of the lobby level. Four new faculty offices have replaced the former 6th floor student lounge. The Dean Joan Konner Alumni/Alumae Hall (lobby) has been treated to an historically sensitive refurbishing.

A glass enclosure on the west side of the school’s terrace has created an 800-sq. ft. café. The café’s main façade is be a double-hung window, which can be opened.

The Stabile Student Center is accessible via the building’s main entrance and through the café’s terrace entrance, there is outdoor seating. The café service area occupies the former 2950 Broadway stair hall, and is accessible both from the café and the social hub.
