Instructions for International Students
Welcome. And yes, orientation is mandatory.
International students must report on Thursday, Aug. 7, for a special two-day orientation. This orientation is mandatory. The schedule is as follows:
Thursday, Aug. 7: Please gather at 9:45 a.m. at the iron campus gates at Broadway and 115th Street. From there, we will travel via private bus to Professor Josh Friedman's home for a traditional American barbeque lunch (with vegetarian options). Dress casually and bring sun block, since we’ll be outside most of the day.
Important: Arrive at 115th St. and Broadway on time since the bus will leave promptly at 10 a.m., and there is no public transportation to Professor Friedman’s home, an hour outside the city.
In case of emergency, contact Stephanie Block, program manager for international programs, on her cell phone at 917-573-8565.
The bus back to the Journalism School will depart at 4 p.m.
Friday, Aug. 8: Meet at 10:45 a.m. in the same location as the previous day: the iron gates at 115th St. and Broadway. From there, we will travel by subway together to Lower Manhattan. You will be touring the area by foot, so wear comfortable shoes and bring more sun block!
Afterward, join Professor Josh Friedman and Stefanie Block for dinner and karaoke in Chinatown. We will cover the cost of dinner, but please bring money to pay for the subway.
The day will conclude at approximately 9 p.m.
Monday, Aug. 11: Join the other M.S. students at 9 a.m. in the Lecture Hall for the start of the academic year.
