On-Campus Recruiting
Individual Recruiting Days:
Employers who seek to conduct internship interviews with students in the fall or spring may schedule an individual recruiting day at the Journalism School. We provide a meeting room, notify the students and assist you in scheduling your interviews. Employers need to let us know the day they want to come, how many recruiters they will send, the length of each student interview and if they want to prescreen resumes or let students sign up on a first-come, first-serve basis. Many recruiters hold open informational sessions for the students prior to beginning the one-on-one interviews. Send e-mail to careers(at)jrn.columbia.edu to set up a schedule. There is no fee for the service.
Career Expo:
Each spring, the Journalism School holds its annual day-long expo at which media organizations network and conduct employment and informational interviews. In 2007, we welcomed more than 100 recruiters from 75 companies. In 2008, we moved to Roone Arledge Auditorium and hosted more than 150 recruiters from more than 100 companies. We also welcomed representatives from a number of professional journalism associations. Last year's event had numbers similar to 2008. This spring's Career Expo was March 27, 2010 with more than 170 recruiters from more than 100 companies. Next year's Career Expo is March 26, 2011.
At the expo, each company is provided with a table to conduct interviews with our students and a book with resumes of the graduating class. We develop a schedule of interviews for each recruiter to match the interests of the media company and each student as closely as possible. Breakfast & lunch, WiFi & power, a table & chairs, a resume book, and a customized interview schedule are included in the registration fee.
Send e-mail to careers(at)jrn.columbia.edu to be put on the mailing list and receive reminders and updates.
