Writing Prompts

Please answer two questions: one personal statement and one short answer. If you answer A1, you must answer A2. If you answer B1, you must answer B2.

Personal Statement (write two double-spaced pages in response to the following question):
A1. Why are you considering a career in publishing? What personal characteristics, interests or aspirations have led you to this choice?
Short Answer
(write a paragraph in response to the following question):
A2. Since her club debuted in 1996, Oprah Winfrey has had great influence over the books Americans choose to read. If you held such power, what book would you recommend? Why?

Personal Statement (write two double-spaced pages in response to the following question):
B1. As a member of the publishing community you will often be asked for recommendations. Tell us about a book, magazine or website that you love. You can assume that we’re familiar with what you’re writing about. Don’t write a summary of what you’ve read or an academic paper; rather, persuade us to read your recommendation.
Short Answer
(write a paragraph in response to the following question):
B2. Tell us something that does not appear on your transcript or resume that will give us a more complete picture of who you are.
