Social Media One-Night Stand

An Advanced Workshop for Journalists, Bloggers & Media Professionals

The Continuing Education unit of Columbia’s Graduate School of Journalism offers Prof. Sree Sreenivasan (@sree), one of Poynter.org's 35 most influential people in social media and one of AdAge's 20 media people to follow on Twitter, in a special, advanced social-media class to be held in-person and via a live webcast and online chat.

Overview: This innovative workshop consists of a 3-hour in-person group class to be held at the Journalism School and in a live Abode Connect webcast, followed by two weeks of online Q&A and community, curated by Sree and adjunct professors. (On the registration form, select whether you will take course in person or via the webcast. Please upgrade your browser to the latest version available with your operating system.)

This workshop won’t be providing basic information; attendees are expected to come with experience using social media for business. The focus will be on the latest tools as well as best practices and case studies. This will be a fast-paced, tips-filled session. Come ready to learn and ask lots of sharp questions in-person or via the live chatroom.

If you are looking for a more basic course, check out Sree’s seven-week “Smarter Social Media” course which will be offered in the beginning of March, also with a choice of attending in-person or through an online webcast. 

Instructors:  
Joining Prof. Sreenivasan will be two digital media experts as adjunct professors who will work with the group over the two-week period, Liz Borod Wright (@travelogged) and Linda Bernstein (@wordwhacker), both experienced social media coaches.

Pricing: $125.  10% discount for Journalism School alumni and 5% discount for former Journalism School continuing ed students. Employers who wish to send large groups can arrange a group discount, as well.

NOTE ABOUT ONLINE COMPONENTS OF THIS COURSE: The 3-hour talk will be recorder for later playback.  All registrants are welcome to participate in the two-week coaching period, which will be done via a closed Facebook group and a special learning management system.  

Please note: Columbia University reserves the right to cancel and/or reschedule a course based on enrollment figures.  In the event of cancellation or postponement, the Continuing Education department will offer reimbursement for the course.  In other cases, all sales are final. Continuing Education does not offer refunds, credits or exchanges. We apologize, but there are no exceptions to this rule.
